Winter inspired collage pages (1)
This is a "behind the zine" post, more or less.
The last few zines I've made were created digitally because I gave up on my printer... but I realized I can still use it as a scanner, at least. So instead of what I'd been doing using stock images and free things, this season's zine will start with a collagey scrapbook base layer.
But first a little about my process!
About a decade ago I figured out the best way to organize my paper supplies is by size. I bought two small memory boxes and put a bunch of scraps in them. I've been using this method since and it's a lovely portable way to get some scrap collaging done anywhere in the house.

I go through the boxes to pick out a smaller selection of papers (patterns, colors, shapes) that inspire me for the page. This time: anything that follows the winter color palette I've seen on my walks or feels winter so far.

I wanted to do two pages so I split the papers and started arranging them how I'd like to see them together. (I actually ended up with enough for 3 pages, but I set those aside for later.) My goal was to make 4 zine page backgrounds that touched on December and January flavors.

Then I went to town, arranging and sticking and trying things.

At some point down the line these pages will become part of my winter zine.
Lessons learned: don't forget to look at the backs of papers before you decide where to use them because it could be surprisingly even better on the other side.
