Happy Valentine's Day!

here on my seasonal blog I just have a few things to say about love.

for many people today is about spending lots of money on candlelight dinners and taking long walks on the beach, but for many of us it's simply about respecting and appreciating the love that we have built in our lives.

with or without a partner, our friends are often the architects of our joy. they painstakingly review the blueprints and support you where the walls lack structure.

with or without a partner, you are guaranteed to be the person that you'll spend the rest of your life with.

Love is not finite, and it's not a resource that you only find in certain circumstances. I'm happy I expanded my definition of Valentine's Day and most other holidays because it's a fountain of appreciation for everything I have, and everything I give myself, not just what has been given to me by people I'm sexually attracted to. it's not about being against the holiday, I think it's also great when people in relationships do stuff for each other. it's more about expanding the definition and understanding that love is pure in many forms.

if you haven't in a while, I recommend taking a moment to pause and think about all love surrounding you. pet love, sibling love, friend love, whatever. acknowledge your growth and resilience. today is a lot more fun when you embrace the entire spectrum and realize there's room for more, instead of focusing on a personal lack of a certain type of love.

for Valentine's Day this year, I went out and got burgers and milkshakes and sweet potato fries with a very long time friend. we haven't seen each other in a while and it was a lovely little catch up. then we went to Walgreens and walked around and bought little things. before we left I gave her a zine and she gave me some stickers. I like that almost every time we see each other we have little gifts.
